Approval Process
#1. The breeding stock approval form has been revised to remove the numerical rating and may now be completed by your own veterinarian. The horse will simply be APPROVED or NOT APPROVED for breeding stock with comments on strengths and weaknesses in each section. This is similar to a pre-purchase exam and may be done at your convenience thereby eliminating the extra cost of scheduling or attending a formal approval. A veterinarian is an educated expert in the skeletal and muscular structure of the horse. Soundness, movement and congenital defects are their specialty and they are technical not subjective. They are bound by their office to report the facts as they appear. We feel this will simply the procedure greatly while maintaining the main purpose of ensuring our breeding stock is of the highest quality.
#2. It is the general consensus that the rating process should serve to reflect the actual abilities, performance record and specific talents of any given horse therefore a point system will be instituted to allow outstanding performers in their disciplines to obtain ratings of Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum according to their performance. This will better serve the intended purpose of the rating system. Horses who have already been approved will maintain their ratings in the halter category and may also raise them through further competition wins at halter and add performance ratings as well.
ALL disciplines will be recognized and we will find a way to ensure that endurance scores, dressage tests, team penning, carriage driving and any other discipline you may participate in will fit into in this system. Any document able points earned prior to this procedure change may be submitted for inclusion in your horses rating. This will be a live system for a few years, adaptable to our membership as we grow.
